Welcome to the Student Advocacy Center!
What is the Student Advocacy Center?
The Student Advocacy Center (or "SAC") is a student-run department of the Student Government that offers free, confidential advice to students that come in to conflict with the university, usually as a result of Student Conduct Code charges or alleged Academic Integrity Code violations. Our peer advocates are available to help you with everything from preparing your case to accompanying you to your disciplinary proceedings.
How can an advocate help?
Our advocates specialize in the Student Conduct and Academic Integrity adjudication processes, but we can help you find the answers you need for just about any area of AU. Not sure if we can help? Just ask!
With the Student Conduct/Academic Integrity Code Process
SAC understands that going through the Student Conduct or Academic Integrity Code process can be stressful; you may not know who you can turn to for advice with your situation. Our highly trained peer advocates are available to guide you through the processes of the university and walk in to your meeting prepared. Our familiarity with the systems and past experiences will help you focus your preparation efforts for the best results and ensure that the proper procedures have been followed by the university. An advocate can accompany you to your meetings to act as an advisor. As an advisor, we can help make sure that your entire story is conveyed to the hearing officer and act as a source of support.
With Greek Life Concerns
Our office can act as a confidential and anonymous liaison to the appropriate organizations and/or university departments. Not sure what you should do in a situation? An advocate would be happy to simply talk to you to discuss possible options.
With Complaints Regarding Conduct of Professors, Public Safety Officers, RAs, etc.
We can help you through the process of filing a complaint with the appropriate university department.
Is SAC Confidential?
Yes! All interactions with SAC are strictly confidential. You will receive a copy of our confidentiality policy when you first walk in to our office. We are happy to answer any questions concerning our policy or those of Student Conduct.
Does it make me look guilty if I go to SAC or bring an advocate to my meeting?
Not at all! Student Conduct and Academic Integrity Code adjudicators are used to seeing us in meetings with students. We are there to provide support and make sure you remember to say everything can help you. We highly encourage you to take an advocate, or another member of the AU community, to your meeting if it would make you feel more comfortable.
